Re: wiccan=witch?
Fri, September 15, 2006 - 4:50 PMI am old over 50! Yes we are on tribe as well. I consider myself a WIccan witch. The big difference seems to be that WIccans generally circle and have a ceremony involving cakes and wine (food and drink), and the 4 directions. I would like to hear if anyone else has any other ideas. My tradition is NROOGD. Some in NROOGD would not call themselves Wiccan, but I believe most would. If someone says they are not WIccan, I will not argue with them. -
I do not consider myself a fluffy, cupcake, new age witch. I do not deny anger, pain or other such things as many do. But I do not focus entirely upon anger and revenge. The Universe has a cycle involving birth, death, and much mess as well as much beauty. -

Re: wiccan=witch?
Wed, April 11, 2007 - 9:52 AMI am also a wiccan witch, but do not consider my self fluff and soft.....I am a down to the earth...I accept pain when it comes.and let it run its course when the universe decides I need it. I have anger..............and sadness.....regret about love.but the universe always has a plan for me and I will stay strongly bonded with the god and goddess.for the earth and I are on fairly good terms.

Re: wiccan=witch?
Sun, July 1, 2007 - 11:55 AMFrom my ramblings on the web and in the world, when I come across a Witch it can mean a variety of things. A Wiccan is just one type of Witch ... however, that's also kind of loaded. For one person, a Wiccan is an initatory path. For another Wicca is a personal religion with a certain set of practices. For me, I don't care how another person uses it. It's just not for me to say.

Re: wiccan=witch?
Fri, July 6, 2007 - 8:52 PMHello... I'm Feebee. I also consider myself a witch, but I am not Wiccan. I believe and practice much of what Wiccans do, but I am a magickal practitioner and clairvoyant and so may be regarded as a witch. From some of the research I have done over the years, some people consider themselves Wiccan and a witch, just a witch, or just Wiccan. I won't go into all the reasons behind each though... I'm sure there are many great comments here to shed more light. Take care! F.

Re: wiccan=witch?
Tue, July 31, 2007 - 8:29 AMYou seem to be on the right track. There is no simularity between Traditional Witchcraft and Wicca. Wicca is an Americanize perverted version of witchcraft. The only simularity is that they celebrate the same sabaths, and have the same calendar. Too many people read witchcraft books by American authors, then turn around and claim to be a witch. It is in the blood or inner self of a person.

Re: wiccan=witch?
Mon, August 6, 2007 - 7:38 PMWell, I had the same problem you described for quite a while there. I always said I was "pagan" because I'd never been ceremonially linked to either Wicca or Witchraft until a friend explained to me that my practices (green magick) are more of the witch nature. (No pun intended) So, he stated that although I have not been integrated into any particular coven I might be what is termed a solitary green witch. Consequently, I read up on it and made up my mind that is the path lined up for me. I still say I am pagan to those that ask but...inside, I know I am a witch.
Blessings-
Pedro

Re: wiccan=witch?
Wed, August 15, 2007 - 2:36 PMWicca was created by Gardner, but there are several other types of traditions: Celtic, British isles, Earth centered, Egyptian, Faerie, Chaos, Solitary, Green, etc. Raven Silverwolf has a good book called, "Riding the silver broomstick" that gives general explainations on the traditions. Keep in mind, though, that it is meant for those who know nothing about the craft, so it can be a little simplistic.
As I understand it, Wicca tends to be "stricter" on the rules of ritual than, say, the Faerie tradition, who pride themselves on their flexibility.
I like to use Pagan as a modern, generic term for those involved in any tradition or path, though that isn't really correct in the strictist sense. Pagan originally means, "Stick in the mud," because the English came over to Ireland and saw all the country folk who used sticks to define property lines, and those country folk were practicising the craft!
I like to use Witch or Witchcraft to define the self that uses magic actively, rather than one who follows a spiritual path. On the other hand, I am a witch who practices Earth centered tradition, so that makes me a witch and a pagan, though only in a modern way. I am not a country person, by any means!
Feel free to look up or challenge any of these statements. I like to hear alternate viewpoints and research the history of our paths. -

Re: wiccan=witch?
Fri, September 28, 2007 - 11:41 AMFor many years I have been in search of where I fit in. I have considered myself everything from Christian to Wiccan, and yet throughout it all I feel that what I belive and my life style is best suited to my understanding of a Witch.
I find many of the answers to the questions I have in nature, in what I experience and empirical evidence. As I grow both in wisdom and age I feel that life is like a jig-saw puzzle and almost every traditon has a part of the whole.
I also feel that my personal spiritual development is an ongoing journey, everytime I think I have 'discovered' the 'truth' I find myself at the begining of yet another journey.
It's quite exciting really although at times it has been rather lonely as you tend to leave people you have grown to love behind.
I guess what I am seeking is someone who can be a companion on this journey while not expecting to walk in my foot steps or vice versa.
To be honest, at this point in my life I find myself still looking for people to share ideas, and challenge me to new and exciting discoveries.
So back to the question Wicca or Witch . . personally I guess I see them as the differences that suit the different personalities within the wider spiritual journey.

Re: wiccan=witch?
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 4:16 PMMetanoia here. I'm new to the tribe but have found this new avenue invigorating. I reside in the heart of the Mormon community, Orem Utah. The nearest Craft shop is an hours drive, and to "Remain Silent" has isolated me further still.
ANYway, sorry off the subject, but I was initiated into Witchcraft about 4 years ago. The rede is the same. They are similar paths.
I guess what I am trying to say unsuccessfully is that Wicca is more communal where Witchcraft is more covenly. I think.
Personally I am a solitary Witch so the Craft for me is quite Magickal in nature.
PLEASE SOMEONE PULL MY FOOT OUT OF MY MOUTH!!!!!
